Custom Framing
Custom framing is the foundation of Mountlab.
We create custom-made frames for artworks, photography, works on paper, canvas, objects and collectable pieces. Every frame is designed around the work itself. The frame must support, protect and strengthen the artwork without taking over the attention.
For every assignment, we look at format, colour, depth, weight, material, condition, value, location and use. A work on paper requires a different construction than a large-format photograph, a signed poster, a canvas work or a fragile historical document.
Mountlab does not work with standard glass, because nothing about our approach is standard. We only choose glazing that suits high-quality art: museum glass, UV-protective acrylic and anti-reflective museum acrylic.
The choice is made for each work individually. Museum glass offers a very clear and calm presentation, but it is heavy and vulnerable with larger formats. UV-protective acrylic is lighter, safer and often the better choice for larger works, transport or project-based installation. Anti-reflective museum acrylic is the highest-grade solution when protection, size, safety and minimal reflection are equally important.
For high-end applications, anti-reflective museum acrylic can cost around 500 dollars per square metre, excluding transport, packaging and processing. For that reason, this option is mainly used for valuable works, large formats or projects where protection and presentation are more important than standard costs.
Protective constructions for canvas and paintings can also be applied when the work is especially vulnerable or placed in a demanding environment.
Custom framing is intended for clients who want their work professionally processed, protected and presented at a level that matches the value of the object.
