Authentication & Documentation is an independent service for artworks and collections that need to be carefully researched, recorded, certified or valued.
This service is separate from framing. Mountlab can inventory and assess an individual artwork, a partial collection or a complete collection based on visible characteristics, condition, provenance, available documentation, market data and comparable sales.
This is relevant for collectors, financial institutions, insurance purposes, estates, corporate collections, acquisition, sale, financing and internal administration. The aim is to clearly record what is present, which information belongs to it and which documented value substantiation can be based on it.
Where required, a report, certificate or documentation file can be prepared. The artwork is described, the available documentation is linked, and condition, provenance and valuation are substantiated.
When Mountlab issues a certificate, this is never treated as a simple document. It is based on research, experience and a careful assessment of the artwork. A certificate carries responsibility. That is why proper substantiation is essential and why Mountlab documentation can be relevant for collectors, insurers and financial institutions.
For acquisition or sale, documentation and research help to clarify risks, price level, marketability and provenance. It is also possible to have an artwork assessed independently by Mountlab before purchase. This prevents loose assumptions and provides a business basis for decisions.
For regular clients, Mountlab can also coordinate the practical handling, such as transport, documentation and framing before the artwork is delivered to its final location or client.
Authentication & Documentation is intended for clients who want not only to own their art or collection, but also to understand, record and substantiate it professionally.
